Image Analysis Lab

Dr. Gansler's work involves volumetric analysis of structural MRI data. This proceeds in the following manner:

  • Raw data is acquired in the form of structural MRI scans of subject's brains.
  • Subjects are generally derived from Tufts-affiliated hospitals where Dr. Gansler is on the faculty.
  • Processing of the brain then occurs following a standard protocol:
  • Spatial normalization of image.
  • Image is placed in the axial plane.
  • Orthoreslicing of the brain into the coronal plane.
  • Segmentation of brain into different areas using Statistical Parametric Analysis (SPM) - This involves either free tracing or contour analysis.
  • Volumes of different regions are then analyzed using SPSS, and compared to behavioral and/or neuropsychological correlates.
